TERM 4

Term 4 has started of really fun! We have been learning how to draw tikis with Mr Power and all of us are really good!

We have also been busy drawing and painting our potraits. Most of us have finished them now and they are going to be put on the wall.

A few weeks ago the year 6 people had the year 6 porwhiti at broadgreen intermediate. They were welcomed by the broadgreen kapa haka. Then Nayland sang tutera mai na iwi. The year 6 students were shown around broadgreen and had to hongi the broadgreen kids.

In writing we've been writing pick a path stories. They can be about anything! First, we plan them on popplet. Then we write them and publish them.

We would like more comments posted on the blog please
bye!

holidays

Hi! I'm Susi!
In a couple of weeks, i'll be going to Germany to see my family again!!!!!
I will leave on the 28th of April.
I heard that it takes about 24 hours just to get there, so we will stop at San Francisco.
When we are there, we will get to go pony riding, shop for chocolate, and we will look for this very cute little toy owl.
We've been looking for it for about 2 years.
Thank you for reading this!

R.O.T.D (Reporter of the day)

Today for reporter of the day I spoke about The 13 story treehouse. Which is a book by Andy Griffiths. In their treehouse they have a lemonade fountain, a theatre and library, a games room, a man eating shark tank. A see-through swimming pool, swing vines a bowling ally and a bathroom a kitchen  room full of pillows a underground laboratory. My favorite part of the book is the end of it because their neighbour jill has this pram  that is being flown by silky the cat and her friends,so they flew Andy and Terry to their publisher Mr.Big nose in time.

Technology Challenge

Yesterday we did a technology challenge for Mission Impossible. We used newspaper and we  had to make 2 jackets , 2 hats,a handbag, a skirt and a pair of trousers. We only had one roll of sellotape,12 sheets of newspaper and 1 pair of scissors per group. It was hard because there were lots of things that we had to make and we didn't get much time but it was still fun. Some people's clothes started ripping probably because it was to tight on them. Creeping Along

This is what we found out about glaciers.
The ice is hard and slippery.
Ice can break and melt at the same time every year.
Ice can be thin and thick and is very heavy  when thick .
If it is very cold the water turns into thick ice.
If there is a frost there is thin ice over water.
Some of the glaciers are 3 kilometers thick and would reach from Auckland to Christchurch.
 By CALEB and RILEIGH

GLACIERS

GLACIERS
We learned about glaciers. We know that its very dangers & is very slippery. In fact ,most glaciers would take three months to slide the length of your class room. We have to glaciers in New Zealand. By Hannah,Braydon.

Glacier.

For english and reading were learning about glaciers.
A glacier is a frosty mountain that could be very dangerous because its cold enough to give you hypothermia.
First it starts in a very cold river then it starts to form into a frosty mountain.
It takes 100 years to form into a proper mountain. By Jackson and Zak.
We also have two Glaciers.

Glacier

A glacier is a mountain piled with snow and big gaps in between. The ground and it is very dangerous. Because if you fall in a small gap, you will not able to get out of the glacier and when it snows you won't be able to get out. Because you will get stuck under the snow. Sky and Tyler!

Next was Room 4 vs Room 3. Room 3 won which unfortunately we do not  know the score,  it was a very   good game though!
Then on Wednesday 3rd of August Room 5 vs Room 2. Nice try Room 5 but Room 2 won 9-        25 sadly :(
After that was Room 1 vs Room 4 and Room 1 took the lead and won, though it was a very  tight game, it   could have gone either way.
Now today Room 5 vs Room 3, wish us luck.

THE FLAX

                                         THE FLAX
On Monday 1st August 2011 Hannah & Tyler measured room 5's flax it was 67cm high. The type of flax is TUKURA flax here is a description: A fine cultivar. Tall, very bendy leaves, soft but strong. Red margin and keel. Young leaves show reddish/brown shading at tips of blades. Grown in many districts  under different names. We are trying to see how far it will grow in a month. We measured all of the other classes flax plants too. We will give it some of our worm castings to see if it helps it grow stronger. We are going to sell the worm castings and the worm tea from our worm farm to help and raise funds for our school camp!
